WHAT IS SAMPG

SAMPG (Saint Augustine’s Men’s Purity Group) is a fellowship of Catholic men who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to obey God’s laws, to stop lusting and become sexually pure. There are no dues or fees for membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

Saint Augustine’s Men’s Purity Group is loyal to the constant teachings of the Holy Catholic Church that have come down to us from the Apostles. We agree with the Catechism of the Catholic Church regarding pornography, which states:

2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense.

Our primary purpose is to stay sexually pure and help other Catholic men achieve sexual purity.

The Saint Augustine men’s Purity Group was established in 2005 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Keller, Texas. A group of men from the parish had been meeting every Saturday morning to pray the rosary and have a Catholic men’s discussion group using the St. Joseph Covenant Keeper commitments started by Steve Wood, founder ot eh family Life center and www.dads.org. This group is dedicated to helping catholic men be better husbands and fathers.

At one of the meetings, there were fiftteen guys there and someone asked, “Does anybody here struggle with a porn problem or addiction”?  Fourteen hands went up ( the fifteenth guy was probably lying or asleep). From that point on two of us form the group decided to provide a resource to help our brothers in Christ fight porn and other sexual addictions.

We called the group Saint Augustine Men’s Purity Group after the great saint who in is own time in the 4th century with the help of God’s grace conquered his own sexual addictions.

For the past seven years, our group has been meeting every week at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Keller, Texas. We have also established some additional groups that meet  at various locations.

The purpose of the group is to be a resource to held each other accountable before God, to get porn out of our lives and live lives that are pure and chaste.

The program that we use is the L.I.F.E. Guide ( Living in Freedom Every Day) by Dr. Mark Laaser. Please review the resources page and the rest of the site for more information on how you can rid your life of porn and help others live lives that are holy and pleasing to God.
